The growth in data capacity, and the increasing use of applications that are powered by data in massive quantities, is resulting in an increase in heat generation in facilities. As a result, operators are looking for more efficient cooling technologies, and new liquid cooling systems are generating a lot of interest.

Proof of the progress being made and the great future of immersion cooling in larger data centres is Microsoft’s new commitment to these technologies. It recently announced that it will increase investment in technology from specialist firm Wiwynn, called Liebert VIC, which supports up to 100kW per rack and promises a reduction in energy cost per cooling of up to 95%. But they are not the only ones working in this field, as there are other manufacturers of immersion cooling systems and startups dedicated to this field.
