Internet Explorer is slowly reaching the end of its days. In a new announcement from Microsoft, the company has set dates for both the end of Internet Explorer 11 support and the end of Edge Legacy. A slow goodbye that will materialise over the next 12 months for both browsers.

It should be noted that this does not mean that Internet Explorer will stop working, it will continue to be available and usable as part of Windows 10. In a few years Microsoft will probably finally to stop maintaining it by abandoning security updates for the browser. We’ll see if it makes it to 30 years.

Internet Explorer 11 arrived in 2013 as a response to those users and companies that needed to continue to have Internet Explorer for app and web compatibility. Currently many websites are still only compatible with Internet Explorer because of its large market share in the past. However, Microsoft reminds that the new Microsoft Edge has an “Internet Explorer compatibility mode”. This allows Microsoft Edge to open and run such websites that are only compatible with Internet Explorer standards. Microsoft has insisted in the past to stop using Internet Explorer.
