We explore different methods that can be applied to different Office suite documents to extract their content (in some cases without opening them) and determine whether they are malicious or not.
Cybercriminals apply different techniques on these Office suite documents to evade the security solutions installed on the computer and hide their intentions.
One of the many strategies used by cybercriminals to try to infect their victims’ computers is by sending a document from the Office suite (text documents, spreadsheets, presentations, among others) with malicious content. The document may be attached in an email or in some cases compressed inside another file, e.g. a ZIP file.
