Organisations are facing an avalanche of data for the future, and need to adopt new technologies and strategies to manage it properly. Especially since most of this data is unstructured in the traditional way, which poses a number of management challenges that need to be addressed with a different approach.
According to DCIG experts, managing unstructured data presents five main challenges that need to be addressed.
- The first is that the capacity available in data centres is insufficient for the needs of the future.
- The second challenge is that in many cases legacy equipment is not designed for the next capacity leap.
- Another challenge to overcome comes from managing unstructured data in remote offices.
- The fourth challenge identified by DCIG experts is the need to constantly expand storage capacity.
- Finally, there is the challenge of cost of ownership, as scaling storage infrastructure and expanding data management capabilities, especially for unstructured data, means increasing TCO.
