5G technology is characterised by ultra-fast connectivity, with high bandwidth both upstream and downstream and very low latency, equivalent to that of fibre optics. In addition, it will have the capacity to connect millions of devices, which will allow the internet of things or autonomous driving to become widespread, while in factories it will allow full robotisation.

With the new deployments, Telefónica will be switching off the old second and third generation networks, so that by 2025 it expects to have switched off the 3G network, as well as having replaced 100% of the copper network with fibre optics. According to the group, this will allow for more efficient management of investments, as it will not be necessary to increase them to address new deployments.
